Probably you are right.
We both like many things called "humiliation", but mostly it's only fetish for us.
He doesn't want to humiliate or hurt me and I needn't be really humiliated.

Humiliation can be completely different for different people, public or private. It doesn't even have to involve two people.
A sub pissing in a diaper just to feel a certain way can be humiliating to herself, or it could be a normal activity on any afternoon. No one has to know except herself, or her Master.
An innocent family does not have to point and laugh as she is directed to piss herself. It can be as subtle as cuming on her face. Many, many subs do not like that and feel degraded by this.
There are lots of ways to feel humiliation. And if you like something that others or society calls "humiliating", then perhaps it isn't that to you. No need to stress that you can't put a label on it, just enjoy it.

is then humiliation always only public humiliation?
