Depending on where you live, there are support groups known as "TNG" or "The Next Generation" where you can learn about BDSM and different roles that one can play. A google or Myspace search can reveal the closest one in your area.

There are also sites like this one that are dedicated to the discussion of BDSM and playing and experiences. Livejournal has a group journal of hundreds of members that would be happy to help as well. 

Knighthawk makes a few excellent points though. True definition of your likes/dislikes will help you find the perfect Trainer and if you continue to search, you can find Him. Talking to other Doms and subs will help you learn more about yourself. 

PeJay is correct as usual but I might add; there are many interesting articles written about  BDSM on the internet by those who have been associated with the lifestyle for many years. Some are absolutely on point while others may go a bit beyond mainstream BDSM practice or technique. You might try wikipedia as one source of information.

On the other hand, if you prefer to learn from the experiences of Masters/slaves at Slave Farm, you will find it to be an excellent medium as well.

There are questions you need to ask yourself even before you contact anyone through private message (PM). What level of BDSM involvement are you interested in? Some slaves suffer actual physical abuse from their Masters while others may fall into the category of "servants" who perform duties at the Master's behest and are only mildly punished for failure or disapproval.

Some slaves are considered pain-slaves or pain-sluts and are usually dealt with more harshly. You need to determine first and foremost what YOUR desires are before committing yourself to anyone's service. Are you a hard-core masochist who gets sexually aroused when you receive pain? How much pain or abuse does it take for your personal pleasure's sake? You may prefer hard bondage as opposed to whips, chains and/or needle play. Have you, or would you like to have, your nipples pierced with needles or your nipples nailed to a piece of 2" X 4" wooden board? Do you like pussy torture? There are many extremes.

Are you mildly obedient or does the act of being disobedient turn you on more? Do you like to fight back before you surrender or are you always in submissive posture? I have trained many slaves; enough to know that interviewing a slave and finding out as much as one can about their personalities is essential to the growth and positive outcome of a good BDSM relationship.

So please, before you leap into unfamiliar waters only to find that you cannot swim in the deep; continue your research and ask yourself many, many questions about YOU. It takes two to make a powerful BDSM relationship and the pairing can be wonderful if it has a good starting point.
