Top Rated Photos

The way the top rated photos are listed is really not representative.  Instead of just averaging the ratings and sorting them in descending order you might consider instead a weighted average based on the number of views, number of ratings, etc.  Many at the top are there merely because just a few rated them a 10.  Statistically, that means a photo that has a high attraction (good) has little chance of being considered as a top rated photo because, if people are honest, some are bound to rate something lower than a 10, now and then.  Just a thought.

My Opinion

If I may; I'm convinced that it is probably impossible to develop a rating system or method that would be any more "fair" than the current one; with the possible exception of Yukio's suggestion. The reason being is that the average person has some degree of built-in prejudice or persuasion against a different group based solely upon race or ethnicity. I will be the first to say that it should not be that way, but unfortunately often times it is what it is. Or, a bad or negative rating might come from someone who is bitterly jealous of another Master's slave or the Master/Mistress him/her self. Some Masters may be more clever than others or is either skilled enough or "lucky" enough to have landed a more excellent slave subject. Competition spawns adversarial conduct in the minds and hearts of some individuals.

Take for example; Little League Sports: Some parents become so personally involved that they would actually harm someone's child simply because the two children are on opposing teams. It is a sad reality, but all too often, very real and very true.

When people compete (contest) they want to win. Some may enjoy the comradarie that comes with competition while others have a "win-at-all-cost" attitude. We all witnessed glimpses of this mentality in the recent general elections. Such attitudes can spark cruel rivalry and even long lasting wounds, in the name of winning or being the best.

Slave-Farm is no exception because it does in and of itself foster such conflicts, NOT because the administrators here participate or encourage such conduct but rather, it is due to that fact everyone handles or deals with competion in their own way. In the galleries I've submitted, there might be 8 viewers who give the photo a 10 and one jealous or hateful person who will rate that same photo a 1 simply to bring the overall score down. Nothing can be done to change a person's idea of fairness other than a re-birth of their own conscience while we all know that in many cases these terrible constructs are a product of up-bringing or teachings.

I don't believe that Slave-Farm nor any other organization can do anything to make the situation more fair without so restricting the viewers right to judge, so much so, that most people or some, might not rate a photo at all rather than give the competition a favorable rating.

I don't care for the rating system here but at the same time, I don't see how it could be more fair. Because we are human, mankind tends to lean more toward what "they" seem to think is right, as opposed to what is "actually" true, fair or just! And who among us can be the judge of such philosophical reasoning?

Thank you for your time and attention to this commentary,

I agree with you and also I think the main problem with the rating system is that too many don’t know how the rating scale goes. You have 1 for poorest quality to 10 for best. And either people get that confused or are intentionally being hurtful to the picture poster by giving them only a 1 rating.  This is why I feel the rating system really can’t be taken so seriously on posted pics, as the ratings are too inaccurate.

As for the “Most Viewed”, that alone can be manipulated. You can not say that one picture is being seen more than another by the general public, as the problem still exists that clicking your own pic. multiple times or innocently viewing comments, will add to the hit counter. This problem was brought up over a year ago, and now that you can view the ratings and who rated your pic, that as well adds to the hit counter.

Personally I feel that many pictures that have allot of responses, ratings (high or low) or comments (good or bad) are truly your top pictures on the site in any week, as they are the ones getting the most attention. ~Lillian~

I agree Lillian,  I think the way it is being done is not very accurate/fair.  I don't think a 1-10 rating is enough.  I think it should have a list that has to be completed such as:

Quality-

Level of submission-

Level of Domination-

Pain factor-

Artistic factor-

This is just an example list to give you an idea what I meant.  Each category would have a numerical factor that would be compiled and weighted with everyone elses and then averaged by category and ultimately.  Perhaps that would be better... Not sure.
